Europe Truck Freight Pallets: Dimensions, Securing and Delivery Checklist

Explain why the cargo is palletised and disclose its real attributes

A pallet can consolidate cartons, reduce loose-carton movement and provide a stable base for normal handling, but not every shipment needs one and palletising does not automatically reduce the complete cost. Assess carton strength, carton count, unit weight, fragility or compression risk, warehouse handling and current channel requirements.

List the accurate Chinese and English name, use, material, quantity and packing for every SKU. Batteries, liquids, powders, magnetic or wooden parts, food, cosmetics and supplements cannot be treated as general cargo merely because they are on a pallet. Provide product and label photos and disclose every attribute that may affect acceptance.

State pallet material and dimensions, available fork-entry directions and any protruding or irregular parts. For wooden pallets, applicable packing and destination requirements must be checked against the actual material, trade arrangement and current channel; unclear information is not a basis for a compliance or clearance conclusion.

Submit these ten data points in one quotation request

Create a three-level SKU, carton-number and pallet-number mapping with a version date. Estimated pallet count, size and weight may support an initial review, but mark them as estimates. After stacking, edge protection, wrapping and strapping, weigh and measure the outermost occupied dimensions of every pallet and use that final version for reconfirmation.

Europe is not one delivery point. Provide country, city, postcode, address type and site conditions together. Commercial premises, homes, warehouses and fulfilment centres can have different appointment, access, unloading and receipt conditions. Confirm the scope against the real address instead of writing only “European warehouse”.

Measure the final pallet only after stacking and securing

Stack cartons stably within the pallet footprint, keep the centre of gravity reasonably balanced, and avoid unsupported, leaning or overhanging cartons. Assess interlocking layers, dividers, edge protectors, anti-slip material, stretch wrap and straps against the goods and carton strength. Securing material must not crush the products or seriously deform the cartons.

Measure the outermost points after all securing is complete, including edge protectors, wrap, strap buckles and protrusions. Record each pallet's gross weight instead of substituting the sum of carton weights. After restacking, adding goods, changing pallets or reinforcement, take new photos, weigh and measure again, and retire the old data.

Before handover, inspect deck boards, load-bearing areas and fork-entry points, and check for damaged, damp, bulging or loose cartons. Pallet numbers, carton ranges and the packing list must correspond. Repack unstable loads or changed outlines before confirming charging and warehouse instructions.

Review charging, transport milestones and unloading boundaries

Confirm whether the quotation uses pre-pallet carton data or completed-pallet data, then review the basis for actual, volumetric and chargeable weight. Check the scope for collection, warehouse intake, main transport, customs arrangements and final delivery, plus the triggers for separate confirmation of pallet exchange, reinforcement, oversize cargo, waiting, appointments or storage.

Never assume that a consignee can unload palletised cargo. Confirm vehicle access, appointment needs, available forklift or other unloading equipment, pallet acceptance, de-palletising requirements, contact details and receiving hours. Available vehicle and unloading services depend on the actual destination and current service option.

Interpret indicative transit time through document review, handover, departure, in-transit updates, destination handling and delivery appointment milestones. Schedules, weather, additional documents, destination processing and appointments can affect progress, so an indicative number is not a guaranteed delivery date. Plan backwards and leave a business-appropriate buffer.

Complete a two-stage handover checklist

Warehouse staff should first inspect stacking, securing, pallet condition, carton numbers and pallet-level measurements against the physical goods. The shipment owner should then use the final quotation sheet to verify cargo data, destination address, charging and service boundaries. Record reviewers and dates and retain before-and-after palletising, measurement and handover photos.

If cartons or SKUs change, the load is restacked, the pallet is replaced, the address is amended or the planned date is missed, update the information together and request confirmation again.
